Day One of my self-imposed writing challenge

The title came to me around 3 a.m. last night when I was supposed to be sleeping. I wrote about three days of this self-imposed writing challenge, but like a lot of my writings which occur in my mind in the middle of the night, I have forgotten most of it. Here’s what I do remember:

When my eldest daughter and husband finally painted our bedroom over the summer after years of sleeping in a room where the walls were covered in a horrible grey looking paint, we also rearranged the furniture. Rearranging the furniture is not that easy, especially moving the waterbed, which entails attaching the hose and putting it out the window so gravity can do its thing with the water.

Bedside table and lamp

My Grandmother’s table which needs to be redone, and my new lamp.

In our newly painted and rearranged room, I asked for a nightstand for my side of the bed. I hadn’t had one for god-knows how long, okay maybe actually never, at least not a true nightstand. I wanted it so I could put my glasses there, plus a notepad for when I do wake in the middle of the night, and I could write down all the paragraphs popping out of my mind. So far this has not worked out. I have a new bedside lamp to see, the pen/pencils are there, the notepad is ready (they are in the drawer), but I have one problem with this scenario – our waterbed.

Have you ever tried to write well sitting on a waterbed, it is not the easiest thing going, and if it is the middle of the night, when I am only half awake, the situation becomes almost impossible. So night after night, I awaken and lay there with sentences going through my mind in hopes that I will remember them in the morning. This rarely happens, and sadly I have written some damn good posts in the middle of the night, I just can’t remember them come morning. Thus I have to come up with a solution to deal with the waves in the waterbed for when I do try to write. Maybe the husband could put a desk just off to the side, that way I only have to slide my buttocks from the bed to a chair with the hope the words in my brain don’t get all jumbled and lost.

I should mention I have an issue with sleep walking, and the other night I unplugged my new bedside lamp, and moved it to the other dresser. Why? I have no idea. I’m just happy I haven’t rearranged any kitchen knives lately.
