A few years ago, I bought myself some Christmas Ducks to add to my decorations. The Christmas ducks looked fabulous in my kitchen, but then the games began. The teenage boy thought it would be funny to hide them on me, and each time I found them he would hide them again. This goes on for at least the two weeks leading up to Christmas. You can read about the Christmas ducks here. This year, I purchased an Elf on the Shelf and even though the elf is not geared to a teenager or adult children, I thought it would be a gas to have him in the house.
Much to my surprise though, each one of my children thought the Elf on the Shelf was creepy, but I went ahead and received an adoption certificate and name him Kevin. Kevin was chosen since my husband is always trying to rename our beagle Cocoa Kevin who is amazing in this Samsung commercial (our beagle cannot do anything but sit, stay, and lay down).
Back to the Elf. I proudly displayed Kevin and spoke about him incessantly. The Elf on the shelf was proudly displayed in the kitchen along with my other decorations when the teenage boy decided he would do to the Elf what he has been doing to my Christmas ducks, hide him. Now if you know me, you would realize I am completely oblivious to my surroundings. I walk from point A to point B without noticing anything at all, thus the reason things can only be hidden in the kitchen or living room, they can’t be to low to the ground (I don’t bend well) and not to high up that I have to climb.
I am now always on the lookout for Kevin, my elf on the shelf, but realize as soon as I take my eyes off of him, he is hidden again along with my Christmas ducks.
Haha, this is too funny! Love your hiding spots.
Thanks Brandy, but I do have to give all the credit to my children.
Your son is going to be a way better parent than we are. 😛
Thank you, he is a good man.
Such a great post for this time of year. Thanks for sharing it again! Your son is indeed a cherky one! I can see my son doing things like this when he’s older, too! He’s already a prankster at the age of 2.
Thank you Reese. I do love the antics that are played on Kevin, my Elf on a Shelf, it just adds that extra fun at this stressful time of the year. If you son is already cheeky at 2, then you will have fun as he gets older. 🙂
Hah, your son is cheeky 🙂
Very cheeky indeed.
I remember last Christmas, my son had an elf at his house. Every day it would be moved to a different place. One night, he forgot to move it, and the grandchildren were very put out indeed. 🙂
The elf can be lots of fun, but it can also be a pain remembering to move it. I prefer my son does the moving of the elf.
I have no idea what the Elf on the Shelf is about but had I known he was this much fun I would have purchased one a long time ago. Probably even before The Kids were born.
Please keep sharing pictures of the creative hiding places your family comes up with.

The Elf on a Shelf is a barrel of fun when you have older kids. I can’t wait until mine arrive home from college & university so the shenanigans can begin again.
THE TEA BAG SHOT. OMG I laughed and laughed. “Help meeeeee I’m stuck in this jar.” That’s too funny. I think it’s a little creepy but when my kids are teenagers I’m totally doing this!
It took me hours to find my Elf, the kids had to give me numerous hints. I don’t drink tea, so I would never look there! Most days, especially around Christmas, it is so much fun having kids!
I remember that Kevin commercial. Meanwhile, enjoy the creepy elf.
Awe, Kevin my Elf on a Shelf is not creepy Frank.
Just going along with one of your offspring. 😉
🙂
BEST Elf game EVER!!!!
I do love it! Thank you Chris.
This is so funny!
It keeps this house in cheap, but fun entertainment. 🙂
I LOVE your kids – you did a great job. Hope my kids take the p**s out of me in the same way when they’re older 🙂
Well I’m pretty sure you are as warped as I, so it goes to say your children will be too! 🙂
I think you’ll miss Kevin once Christmas is over. You might to get an Easter Bunny on the Shelf. lol!
The Easter Bunny – the gears are thinking.
