As I spoke about in an earlier blog post, middle child suffers from depression. When she is home, she has the luxury of spending oodles of time with our beagle Cocoa, the two are quite inseparable. It became so bad, that I accused her of stealing my pet since he was no longer sleeping beside my bed, but in her bed. So when she went back to University, she was naturally upset that Cocoa would not be going with her. Thus, another solution had to be found. Dogs aren’t allowed in her building, so that idea was out, and she is allergic to cats, so again another no. In comes the idea of fish, easy to raise, you can have them in a bowl, feed occasionally (so if you forget, no big deal), plus goldfish are abundant and cheap.
Our daughter is now the proud owner of ‘Ketchup, Mustard, and Relish’. She has had the fish for two days and has phoned her father numerous times for advice. First about cleaning, then feeding, then ‘they look like they are going to jump out of the bowl, dad.’ Either way, Ketchup, Mustard, and Relish have brought my daughter happiness, until of course, one dies.
