Late Nights – he can’t do it either.

On the 16th of January, we celebrated my husband’s 50th birthday with a surprise party. Well it actually wasn’t much of a surprise, since he soon figured out there had to be a reason as to why I was up at the crack of dawn cooking and cleaning. Guests starting arriving around three o’clock in the afternoon. It was going to be a long night. Why I decided on three in the afternoon is beyond me, but oh well, the invites were out. My best friend, her husband and kids arrived late and we were well into the partying mode. Then since most of the guests were from out of town, some having a two hour drive, people started leaving around eight, except for my best friend, her husband & kids. Thus we pulled out the deck of cards, and a euchre game began. My best friend and I were partners (she refuses to play cards with him), and we were on a roll. Every hand we were dealt was priceless, soon we were winning game after game and before we knew it, it was 1 a.m. Time to stop, best friend has to work in the morning, but there was more chatting and before we knew it, it was now 2:30 a.m., we said are goodnights, hubby & I were in bed by 3 a.m.

The next day, I got up at 7 a.m. to feed the dog, I felt dead, I loafed all day, I don’t even think I got out of my pajama’s. Move ahead a couple weeks to our 17 year olds night out with friends. They chatted, played indoor soccer, watched a movie, and just basically hung out together.  He arrived home at 2 a.m. and we chatted for a while about his evening. Well today it is almost noon and he is still in bed. Now, he wasn’t drinking booze like the parents, but ‘late nights – he can’t do it either’.

Do I want to be young again – not on your life – going on fifty-one and I am having fun.
